RARE 1992 Ann M. Martin interview

I was going through my old VHS tapes last weekend, and look what I found! :D

This is an interview that Ann M. Martin gave with a twelve-year-old fan as part of the "What I Want to Be" segment on a 1992 episode of Disney's Mickey Mouse Club. You get a sneak peek into the BSC Headquarters, Ann's editing process, meet the art director, and see the manuscript for "Mystery Lake," which later became Super Special #8, Baby-sitters at Shadow Lake.

Enjoy!

I actually wrote to the Mickey Mouse Club requesting to meet her about two years before they picked this girl to do the same thing. I was so bitter.

*wince* Ouch. That sucks. I wonder what made them pick her over you?

Who knows! Maybe it was a timing issue, maybe she wrote a better letter, maybe she had better handwriting...

I'm thinking:

a) they asked Ann on your behalf, and probably several other fans', but she said no (not necessarily because she was a bitch - I wouldn't be comfortable with having my awkwardness displayed on a popular (inter)national TV show either.) Eventually her agent told her to just suck it up and do the damn show.

b) MMC were initially like "No way!" or "Who?" but after numerous letters from fans they decided "we should probably get this lady on the show as she seems to be popular."

Still, that sucks and I'd probably be bitter too.
