From the depths of my VHS tape collection come a couple of promos related to the 1995 BSC movie. I have two of the commercials that ran on TV, and a partial cast interview that was taped for Nickelodeon, where Larisa Oleynik (Dawn) was then-star of The Secret World of Alex Mack.

Song: "Good" by Better than Ezra

Song: "Dreams" by the Cranberries

*sigh* Too bad the ads make the movie look waaaaay better than it actually was. Anybody else remember when the whole "Kristy's father comes back to town" storyline was ~scandalous~? LOL.

Oh man, now THESE take me back down memory lane!
I remember how my "best friend" wound up seeing it without me... but with a bunch of other cooler kids, instead. :C *tear*

Also, does anyone know what song that is playing in the second clip?

If you mean the second trailer, it's "Good" by Better Than Ezra. :)

I'm going to be doing penance for my mom for the rest of my life for sitting through this movie in the local theatre. Sigh... I was exactly the target age, and she was such a saint for it.

Oh man, these trailers took me back. And I've never seen that behind-the-scenes thing before! Thanks for sharing. :)

You're welcome! =) I taped a lot of Nick in the Afternoon back in the day, but just like the Ann M. Martin interview, this came as a surprise when I was surfing through the old videos last weekend :P

The song in the second clip was by The Cranberries, very appropriate for a 1995 film. The name of the song eludes me at the moment, but it was one of their hits.

What was the song in the first clip? I couldn't hear it clearly.

I was in highschool when the movie came out, and was too embarrassed to go and see it at the cinema. I didn't see it until years later. Though I did catch a good chunk of it last week, my mum was channel surfing and emailed me to turn on the TV. Thanks mum!

I totally saw the movie on opening weekend. Then pre-ordered the VHS. And bought the DVD from a bargain bin :P Obsessed? LOL yes, and I was over the target age as well... :P

Now I'm tempted to try and find the songs, since that's what piqued everyone's interest! *scurries off to YouTube*

Edit - found it! =)

The song is "Dream" by The Cranberries - a song that popped up in a lot of 90's films (You've Got Mail comes to mind).

And thus the mystery of why both of those songs remind me of the BSC movie is solved!

Hahahahaha, happy to help =)

All these years I've been pronouncing Larisa Oleynik's last name wrong.
Mar. 1st, 2011 04:11 pm (UTC)
Really? How did you pronounce it?

(I knew her from Alex Mack originally, and back in the day she was a Big Deal on Nickelodeon...)

I want to watch the movie again now. It's been awhile! Those clips are great, thank you!

You're welcome! =) I've been tempted to slip the DVD in again myself, LOL, even though I really liked the TV series better.

Hi! Thanks for this! I didn't know Larisa wasn't a kid lover back then. She must have grown fond of them over the yeers from being on TSWOAM and baby-sitting and all.

There weren't kids on Alex Mack, though.

i went to see that movie wearing my baby-sitters club t-shirt (the one we had in quebec) man it was so over-sized

These are great - thanks! Since the movie went straight to video here there was no advertising for it, so I never got to see anything like this back in the day.
Why on earth did they not keep Larisa Oleynik's hair straight for the BSC movie? She looks more like Dawn in that interview than she does in the actual film.
Also wtf-ing at how Austin O'Brien managed to miss that Logan was Southern. I mean, that's one of his two character traits.

Well, he's a guy....although there were guys that read the books, they were primarily aimed at preteen girls. Good chance he didn't read them. ;)
